InterVarsity is a non-denominational Christian fellowship of students at U.Va. We exist to glorify God through worship, study, fellowship, and service. Our goal is to love God and love others by sharing Christ with them, deepening our faith and understanding of God and His Word, and transforming our campus and the world.
InterVarsity Christian Fellowship is a student Christian movement that was started by students in England in the late 19th century. Back then in England universities were called "varsities." Groups of Christian students at Cambridge and Oxford had started meeting together for prayer independently of one another. At some point they heard about each other and decided to form an "inter-varsity" (or between universities) Christian fellowship.
While we are not based around sports, we do participate in several intramural sports throughout the year!
Our Large Group meetings meet Wednesday nights at 8 PM, in Clark Hall Room 107. Small Groups meet during the evenings throughout the week. Check our calendar for other events and activities.
IV is not a church, nor should it replace or emulate a church. We encourage everyone to be actively involved in a local church. Our role as a Christian fellowship is to create a community of college students who will be encouraged in their growth and to share Christ's love with our fellow students. The church, on the other hand, is much more diverse, made up of people of all educational backgrounds and ages; InterVarsity represents one specific micro-chasm of Christ's ministry.
